Weapon Types

Every weapon is classified as either a melee weapon or ranged weapon, then followed by a weapon type of either simple weapon or martial weapon.

• Melee weapons are used to attack a target within 5ft of you.
• Ranged weapons are used to attack a target at a distance.

A character's race, class and feats may grant proficiency with specific weapons or all weapons of a type.

• Simple weapons include clubs, maces, and other weapons often found in the hands of commoners. Most people can use simple weapons with proficiency.
• Martial weapons include swords, axes, polearms, and other weapons favored by trained warriors. These weapons require specialized training to use effectively. Most warriors use martial weapons because these weapons put their fighting style and training to best use.
